The Cactus Becomes Matter

At the Festa del Cactus, there’s more than just plants. For many years now, alongside the nursery owners, we’ve encountered artisans who observe the plant world and transform it through various materials, techniques, and artistic languages. Ceramics, textiles, metal, yarns, and jewelry: the cactus steps out of its pot and becomes a form, a symbol, an object.

Sometimes it even becomes a little story to carry with you: a piece of jewelry shaped like a cactus, a witty phrase, or an expression like “cactus head” that transforms thorns and botanical shapes into a personal and playful way of expressing yourself.

For a long time, we considered these events to be almost an afterthought to the main event. But something has changed.

They have grown in number, quality, and innovation. And new companies have emerged that are capable of designing objects specifically for plants: pot makers who focus on proportions, depth, stability, and drainage so that even the container can be an integral part of the gardening plan.

That’s why we decided to dedicate a new section of the website to them: Creative Crafts.

A space to explore the material that takes shape in the hands of those who work with it, the function that meets design, and the imagination that transforms thorns, geometric shapes, and plant forms into something new.

At the festival, you’ll find potters, designers, and artisans who create pieces for plants or reinterpret their forms and aesthetics through their work.

Because culture can emerge even around a plant.
